Ive been watching Bauers tutorial videos on GE the last 3 days whilst making a map from scratch and amazingly im progressingly nicely.

However i worked through the Spline part 2 vid using Splines to create roads. The spline goes in fine and i export the object into the german program. No errors thrown and road created fine apparently, however, everytime i add it into the map it either renders like a saw blade and orientates away from the actual spline or doesnt render at all but has its oreintation tool in the centre of the map with nothing there.

Can get a screenshot if it would help, but can anyone point out what im doing wrong?

Spent 3 hours on this so far…. as its 3am its bed time.

Sorry for the late reply, I’m extremely behind on things this week. Did you check the data you exported and fix any discrepancies? I show how to do this in the SSC series. You can post screen shots if you want, it wouldn’t hurt. Hit me up with any more questions and I’ll do what I can.

    Cheers for the reply Bauer.

Ive ditched farmer boys version of SSC and your “old” version works wonders. Just sucessfully completed my longest road which is the length of the map up and down hills!

However, just hit the same problem again on a second “off shoot” road.

    Spline-Issue

The road starts flat then goes up an initial incline.

The road at the top of the incline is fine but every now and again a road tile gets flipped 180 degrees aswell.

Checked through the .i3d and aall axis are showing 0.

    **update**

Working through your part 4 video now 😀

Great vid series btw, learnt so much more using your vids than others on YT.

Keep up the great work and hopefully one day i can send my Cornwall map through to you for review 😀

This looks like a setting adjustment. In SSC videos 3 and 4 I show you how to adjust the angle and slope settings to get rid of a stepping effect. Watch that particular part and see what changes you get. You may have to do the road in smaller sections.

Is it possible to make a roundabout with SSC , or any road making packs that include roundabouts available?

I haven’t been able to find any info or videos on this subject apart from people using Blender.

If Any one can help or point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.

There are definitely road packs available that have a roundabout. I can’t think of the names off the top of my head, you’ll have to search for them. And no, unfortunately SSC is not able to create a roundabout.

One of these days I’ll update this site and post some of the more useful prefabs that are not easy to find, like good road packs 🙂

Thanks for your reply, I will have to keep looking if you think of any please let me know.

If a roundabout was made in blender would SSC attach to it or is it not compatible.

Sure, you could make one in Blender and it would work just fine. The roads from SSC, or any other prefab for that matter, don’t actually “attach” to anything. When you put down your roads and intersections you are basically just placing them close enough together that they might look like they are attached or connected in some way, but they are not. You can mix and match any roads and intersections that you can find and it won’t be an issue.

Thanks Bauer, that’s good to know. I have down loaded a couple of road packs from fs17 and fs19 that have roundabouts in them, I’ve tried one of them and it looks like what I need. The only thing now is the colour of the road is different what is the best way to change it can I do it in paint.net once I have learnt how to use paint.net

The simplest way would be paint.net if it has that capability, I’m not sure. I know it’s possible in Photoshop. It won’t be exact, but you may be able to get close enough. The other way to do it, but definitely not the easiest, would be to import the roundabout into Blender and apply the same texture you are using on the roads. This may take a bit of work to get it just right.

Hi. I have just tried Ai traffic on my road system  before I go to far, And found I have a problem with vehicles stopping on road to junction spline joints when another vehicle is on that spline like some of the comments in EP 28 let go play in traffic.

I am using Bullet Bills junctions and SSC for the roads then putting the splines on the junctions manually as they don’t come with any. I have checked the Y rotations and start to end spline snapping but all seems fine . So I have removed one of the SSC splines and replaced it with a spline like the junctions and it now works fine on that section.

I don’t really want to have to do this to every road spline have you got any idea’s please.

It’s odd, for sure. On several maps now, I’ve used the SSC splines in conjunction with my own, and I never had an issue. If you’re sure that the splines are not rotated and there is no issue with the start/end points overlapping, have a look at your scenegraph. How do you have it set up? Are all of your splines in a single TG, or are you dividing them up into separate TGs? If you are dividing them up, check the translation and rotation values on all of your parent TG groups as well, because the engine will also consider these values when rendering your traffic system, and it could cause a problem.

Hi thanks for the reply, I have now had time to try what you said

I have now got it to work, I found in the traffic system TG I put a streets TG with everything in that as I was going to put the streets in that one and I had another one for junctions , But when it wasn’t working I took the junctions out and put everything in the streets TG instead of in the traffic system TG.

So the question now is if I want to  split things up into the same type of spline IE roads /  junctions etc is it not just create transform group, rename it and move the splines into it

Or does the TG need user attributes if so what? as this seems to be the cause of the problem

As far as I can remember, they can be split up into TGs, but each TG has to be zeroed out cannot have any translation or rotation values. There are no special user attributes that need to be attached to the TGs. Also, keep in mind that if you plan to use Autodrive on the map, having the splines separated into TGs will screw up AD when asked if you would like to create a course from the existing road system.
